Alex Boone (born May 4, 1987) is an offensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers. He played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. A four-year starter for the Buckeyes (2005-08), Boone was a two-time All Big Ten selection (2nd team in 2007, 1st team in '08). In his four years, the Buckeyes were 41-8 and captured four Big Ten titles and played in four BCS Bowl appearances including back-to-back National Championship games (2006 & '07). Boone went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, at least partially due to concerns about alcohol abuse.[1]
Boone was convicted of driving under the influence in 2006[2] and was arrested on February 1, 2009, after allegedly jumping on car hoods, yanking on a tow truck cable and trying to break a window.[3]
He played high school football at St. Edward High School in Lakewood. After being signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an unrestricted free agent following the 2009 NFL Draft, he was released on the final day of roster cuts. He was subsequently signed to the practice squad. He was signed to the active roster on January 6, 2010.
